What To Avoid When Boosting Metabolism

What To Avoid When Boosting Metabolism

If your aim is to supercharge your metabolism and turn your body into a calorie-burning machine, chances are you've already discovered a few rules on the road. Diet and exercise are the two keys that will take you on the road to success, but there are some potholes you need to avoid, too.

The things to avoid when trying to boost metabolism include many common sense things and a few that you might not have considered. If overall good results are desired when boosting metabolism, the things to steer clear from include:

* Sugary foods. While it's not likely a single cookie will wreck your chances of losing weight and sparking your metabolism, eating sugary foods on a regular basis will undermine your efforts. Stay away from basic sweets and even avoid carbohydrates that quickly turn to sugar, such as white bread, processed products and even potatoes.

* Alcohol. This won't make everyone happy, but the fact of the matter is that alcohol can go against your efforts in a big way. Not only do alcoholic beverages contain a ton of sugar, they work against you in another way, as well. The dehydrating effect alcohol has can actually slow your metabolism. A beer or two now and again won't harm your effects, but including alcohol in the daily mix could keep you a little pudgier around the middle than you really want to be.

* Big meals. Huge meals three times a day are the bane of the metabolism. The body simply cannot handle the glut most of us put into it each day. To really make your metabolism work in your favor rather than against you, try eating smaller, more frequent meals.

* Skipping meals. Just as eating big meals can hurt you, so too can starving yourself. To keep your metabolism running as it should, you do have to feed it. Avoid skipping meals to keep everything working as it should.

* Sedentary lifestyle. This is another big metabolism no-no. To really get your body working as it should, you have to move. Exercise doesn't have to be the "E" word, however. You can incorporate all sorts of fun activities into your routine that count toward metabolism-boosting movement. Consider such things as active gardening, dancing, boxing or even playing with the kids for longer stints to make the necessity seem like playtime rather than work time.

While not everyone was born with the body of a god or goddess, there are things you can do to improve how it functions and looks. If boosting metabolism is what you want, knowing what to avoid can also help a great deal. Just use some common sense and stick to a workable, proven plan. When a smart diet is mixed with some good old exercise, incredible things will start to happen.
