Weight Loss and Positive Thinking
Weight Loss Works Hand in Hand with Positive Thinking
While diet and exercise are large components of weight loss, so is positive thinking. Weight loss is hard work. If you’re not motivated or don’t believe in yourself, sticking to a program will be even harder. You have to get into the right mindset to lose weight effectively and keep it off. Here are a few techniques that will help.
The first thing you need to do is set goals. Having a long term goal and short term goals will help you to stay on track. You need to be specific and make sure the goals are obtainable. Unrealistic expectations can be depressing when you don’t see them. Make a plan of action for your weight loss and record your success. Refer to your plan as much as you need.
Visualizing your success can also help you stick to your plan. Think about specific situations like turning down that cake at the office or going for that walk at lunch. See yourself being successful. For extra motivation, you can visualize what the end result of all of your hard work will be. Maybe you see yourself in a bikini on the beach or having the energy to play with your kids. Picture your result any time you feel unmotivated.
Negative thoughts and words can really sabotage your success. Try saying positive things instead. Maybe you didn’t finish your entire workout, but you ordered a salad for lunch. Focus on what you did right instead of what you did wrong. Weight loss is not all or nothing. You should be proud any time you make a good decision. You’ll have another chance tomorrow to make more good choices. For encouragement try keeping a journal of all of the good choices you make throughout the day.
Something else you could write down is a list of all of your positive qualities and accomplishments. These can be from any area of your life. This will remind you that you’ve done more than you think you have and that you really can accomplish your goals. Look at the list any time you need inspiration.
Positive affirmations can also counter negative thinking. Affirmations are just simple positive statements that you tell yourself on a daily basis. You can have one or several. Just choose statements that really mean something to you.
Combine these positive thinking techniques with a sound weight loss plan and you will get results. You have more willpower than you think you do, you just need to tap into it.
